Radio Flare – A musical shooter game – Release
studio radiolaris is proud to announce that Radio Flare, a musical shooter game for the iPhone and iPod touch, is now available on the App Store.
In Radio Flare, your space ship is equipped with a sonification beam that desynchronizes space debris, as well as an entire alien invasion force. Propelled by radio flares, your ship speeds pulsing through deep space, taking you on a journey into sound. The game features an interactive electronica track from Berlin based electronic musician DJ Glow (Trust Records).
“For us, the most important thing was to get the gameplay right. We wanted the controls to be as precise as a shooter requires them” says Martin Pichlmair, one of the two game designers behind Radio Flare. “The depth is in the music and how it unfolds. We kept Radio Flare easily approachable. The idea is that you play it over and over again.” adds Fares Kayali, the other game designer and responsible for the sound design of Radio Flare.
You steer your ship with one finger while targeting enemies with another. Hit enemies are desynchronized in time to the beat and blast out radio flares. Collect radio flares to advance to the next stage and intensify the soundtrack. Rack up points and unlock achievements through tactically executed quadruple shot combos. Radio Flare features five stages, over 100 enemy formations, and a crowning final boss battle.
FEATURES:
- A 2D shooter with beautifully rendered 3D graphics.
- Licensed interactive electronica soundtrack and high-fidelity sound effects.
- Precise multi-touch interactivity for exact navigation and aiming.
- Flow mode for short casual playing sessions. Arcade mode for ruthless high score hunting.
- More than 100 enemy formations.
- 20 unlockable achievements.
- Score attack and time attack rankings.
Radio Flare is available on the App Store for $4.99.

“Radio Flare immerses the player in music. It’s not about reproducing a song but about turning music into an interactive experience” explains Fares Kayali. “Our focus was on devising intuitive controls for a traditional genre on a platform with unique capabilities. Everything you do in this shooter is part of the soundtrack, every shot and every maneuver is in rhythm.” adds Martin Pichlmair.
